Sea and mountain

Barcelona has it all! Last week end, I went sailing and hiking in the mountain.

It was time! I could not bear anymore seing all these boats and having one to take me on board! I finally met a friend of a friend of one of my flatmates, Toni, who's living on his 47ft sailing boat in the Olympic Port, a really nice boat.

We left on a very calm day, sunny and warm and finally got some wind, nicely sailing at 7 knots. I almost did not leave the helm, so happy to steer and feel the sails catching the wind. We had some snacks, chatting and enjoying being outside the big city, with some fresh air, getting some tan again and having a fantastic view over the city!





We tacked and tacked until the sun was going down and even caught a bonito! The first one escaped at the last moment but we managed to get the second one on board.
Ok some of them will think this is the hell of a small fish! Who cares! I was glad to catch it, and even happier to eat it! Perfect for one person's meal!



The day finished eating on the boat with the neighbour, really nice old chap, another sailor and I also met a nice couple of young sailors also living on their boat in the Port. We found out we had lots in common, like kitesurfing, skiing and picking up mushrooms! I have a passion for it as in my family we've always done it and my grandmum is absolutely crazy for them. At the age of 86, she still goes to look for them in the woods! So these guys had been in the mountain during the day and I was glad to taste a different kind of the ones I am used to. Not bad, but certainly not as good as our 'cepes'!

So the day after, I decided to go for a hike in the Natural Park of Garraf, a 30mn drive from Barcelona. It was a gorgeous day and I loved it. Away from the pollution, the noise, the people almost (heaps of them still riding bikes, camping, walking).
I suddendly saw a mushroom called 'bolet', not as good as a 'cepe' but accomodated with some parsley and garlic good enough for me! After find this one, my eyes were all over the places and I came back with a good load of them.





Mother Nature is really a good provider as I also found these delicious red fruits we call 'arbouses', yummy and ate heaps of them too!
This was a really nice walk, the weather was just fantastic, 25 degrees, walking in shorts and with the top of my bikini! Unbelievable!

Back home, I cooked the tuna and mushrooms and had a delicious dinner, all provided by Mother Nature. Life is good!

Encore Mr Gaudi!

Je suis vraiment tombée amoureuse du travail de Gaudi. Plus je le découvre, plus je suis émerveillée par son génie, son talent, sa créativité, et ce dans tous les domaines, le travail du bois, du métal, de la céramique... un vrai 'maître' et une attention extrême au moindre détail!

Voici quelques photos de la Casa Pedrera, une de ses créations, avec des formes étonnantes et qui vaut vraiment le détour car elle abrite une exposition sur l'ensemble de l'oeuvre de Gaudi faite à Barcelona et dans les environs.




J'ai fait cette visite avec mes parents qui sont venus passer quelques jours et ont tellement aimé Gaudi qu'ils ont acheté le livre sur son oeuvre!

Gaudi est surprenant. On retrouve dans pratiquement toutes ses constructions les fameuses arches, une place prépondérante à la lumière et des formes de cheminée externes complètement tarabiscotées et loufoques. La plupart de ses créations ont été inspirées par Dame Nature puisqu'enfant, ayant une mauvaise santé, il a passé la plupart de son temps à la campagne, étudiant la nature, les insectes et animaux. Il a en fait passé très peu de temps avec ses camarades de jeux auxquels il ne se mêlait pas beaucoup. Dès le début, il s'est distingué des autres étudiants en architecture de par son style et ses projets innovants.






L'un de ses meilleures supporters, ami et client était Mr Guell, dont le Parc et le Palai sont bien connus. Grâce à lui, il a pu se faire connaître et se faire confier le projet de sa vie, la fameuse 'Sagrada Familia' qu'il ne verra jamais terminée (elle est encore en contruction depuis 150 ans!).

Incroyable est la première chose qui m'est venue à l'esprit. Enorme, gigantesque, formidable de puissance et de beauté. Nous sommes restés sous le choc, et pour moi d'autant plus que cela fait 3 mois que je l'aperçois de loin de ma bicyclette, me demandant à quoi elle peut bien ressembler, ayant voulu garder le suspense jusqu'au jour de ma visite!
Alors que nous en approchions, marchant dans la rue, je commençais à sentir mon excitation grandir et nous sommes tous les 3 restés scotchés sur cette apparition d'un autre monde!

C'est absolument à voir. En vrai, car les photos ne peuvent pas rendre la réalité.

L'extérieur tout d'abord, avec différentes façades. Celle de la Passion et de la Nativité. La première très moderne, avec des lignes épurées, des angles droits et très peu de fioritures. La seconde chargée de détails, de décorations, de sculptures hyper travaillées. Regardez moi ça!



Si vous vous approchez vraiment des sculptures, vous en remarquerez tous les détails, la précision des traits, et même si je ne suis pas une spécialiste, ces hommes, femmes et animaux m'avaient tout l'air d'être vrais! Stupéfiant! Tout comme les portes en bronze massives sculptées et gravées.
N'hésitez pas à prendre l'audio guide, il vous expliquera tout en détail et le prix payé sera largement rentabilisé car vous connaitrez toute l'histoire de la 'Sagrada Familia' et en apprécierez mieux les détails.
Ce qu'il y a d'impressionnant avec cette cathédrale c'est que Gaudi n'a pas laissé de plans après sa mort accidentelle, percuté par un tram. Ses successeurs ont travaillé sur les maquettes de plâtre qu'il avait fabriquées!







A l'intérieur, on dirait une forêt d'arbres. La hauteur est hallucinante et Gaudi a utilisé toutes sortes de pierres pour construire ses colonnes, selon leur degré de résistance au poids supporté, mais tout s'intègre parfaitement!
Les colonnes sont massives, incroyables et le plafond lui même est à couper le souffle avec ces espèces d'étoiles qui brillent de tous leurs feux oranges et verts.



Je suis restée à contempler le plafond, le fixant sans fin, mes yeux ne pouvant s'en détacher, et voulant graver cette image à jamais dans mon cerveau.

Regardez cet escalier en colimaçon, la décoration de ces colonnes en forme de tronc d'arbre qui aurait un noeud. N'est ce pas original et cela n'a-t-il pas l'air réel?
Je le répète encore une fois, c'est très difficile de vous faire partager ce que cette cathédrale a d'unique. Allez la voir de vos propres yeux. Ce n'est certes pas donné (10 euros) mais ça en vaut le coup. Et c'est aussi une façon de faire en sorte que la construction continue car la cathédrale est financée uniquement par des fonds privés et par les entrées.




A part la visite des constructions de Gaudi, mes parents et moi avons également visité la ville entière. Les photos ci-dessous ont été prises sur la Plaza Reial, très célèbre à Barcelona, non loin de la non moins célèbre Rambla.

More Gaudi artwork!

I really fell in love with the work of Gaudi. The more I discover, the more I am amazed by his genius, talent, creativity, and this in all kinds of fields, sculptures, work with wood, metal, ceramic... a real master and an extreme attention to the leastest detail!

Here are a few pictures of the Casa Pedrera, a whole building he made, with amazing shapes and really worth a visit as it also shows his main constructions in Barcelona and around.




I went to visit it with my parents who stayed for a few days and loved Gaudi so much they even bought a book of his oeuvre!

Gaudi is really surprising, lots of arcs in his constructions, an extreme attention to the light and crazy cheminees outside. Most of his creations were inspired by Mother Nature as he spent a lot of time while being a kid. He had indeed a bad health and did not really merge with other kids, spending a lot of time in the country side. From the very start, he was distinguishing himself from other students with his own style and innovative projects.






One of his best supporter and customer has been Mr Guell, hence the Park Guell, the Palau Guell, and the major achievement of his life, even if he did not have time to see it finished (and it is still under construction!) is the world famous 'Sagrada Familia'.

Unbelievable is the first thing that came to my mind. Huge, amazing, unreal, fantastictly powerful. Under shock we stayed, all the more than for me, riding my bike and seeing a bit of it every day, I really was eager to know how it looked like!
As we were approaching to it, walking in the street, I could feel my desire grow and we all stared in wonder at what we saw.

This is something you should see. Live, in real, as pictures cannot really show it at its best.

The outside first, different sides, the Passion and the Nativity. Both very different, one very modern with angles, lines, arcs, sobriety; the other one with round edges, lots of sculptures, totally overcovered with sculptures and masterpieces. Look at this!



If you get really close to the sculptures, you will notice all the details, the precision and even if I am not a specialist, these men and women, animals looked real to me! Absolutely amazing; and so were the massive doors made of bronze; Do not hesitate to take the audio guide; it will explain you the whole thing and the price paid will be highly valuable as you will know the whole story of the 'Sagrada Familia' and will appreciate better its details. What is also amazing about this cathedral is that Gaudi did not leave plans. When he died of a tram accident, all he left behind was some kind of plaster miniatures of his projects!







Inside, it does look like a forest with trees. The height is impressive and he used all kinds of stones according to their resistance of the weight carried, so there are columns of different colors but all fits in perfectly! The columns are just massive, unbelievable and the whole ceiling is stunning, with these kinds of stars shining in orange and green colors!



I could only stare, not being able to detach my eyes from this fantastic ceiling, wanting to grave it in my mind.

Look at these stairs, at the decorations made on columns, copied on a trunk of a tree with knots. Isn't it so original and doesn't it look real?
Again, it's hard to make you realize how unique this cathedral is, just go and see it by yourself. It might be expensive (10 euros) but it is definitely worth paying the price. And it is also the way to support this project and make it going as it is financed only by private donations and entries.




Apart from the Gaudi artwork, my parents and I also visited the whole town. The pictures below are taken from the Plaza Reial, very famous in Barcelona; not far from the no less famous Rambla. Don't they just look like lovers my parents? After 37years of marriage, well done guys!
